2023 AJCC Championship Section Tie-breaks Rules

In case two or more players are tied for places 1st place the following tie-break procedure will apply:

1)    Head to head result.  This will only apply if all the players in a group played each other.

2)    Tie-break match.  If two players tie they will play a one game match with a time control of 5 minutes and 5 seconds increment per move, each.  If 3 or 4 players are tied, they will play a single round-robin tournament with the same time control.  If the tie is still not broken the procedure will be repeated    but with blitz time control of 3 minutes per player with a 2 second increment after each move.

4) Playoff colors for a game are based on: matching colors

    a) If one person has more colors than the other (for example, one person has 3 whites and the other is two whites), then the person with less whites is white in the playoof.

    b) If this is the same as the reverse of their tournament games; one is white in the tournament the other is white in the playoff.

    c) If they don't play against each other, then a coin toss determines who is white..
