Chess in the Library is a collaboration between the Calgary Junior Chess Centre and the Calgary Library to share the beauty and complexity of chess with readers of all public libraries. The first event was held on February 26, 2011 at Country Hill's Library. It prevailed through online platforms during the difficult times of national lockdown, and has returned to face-to-face experiences since autumn 2022!At CJCC, we firmly believe that anyone has the right to step into the world of chess and thoroughly enjoy it. Regardless of skill level, whether complete beginner or a previously acquainted player seeking to improve, our experienced volunteers at Chess in the Library will guide you to reach your goals in an entertaining yet enriching way. While there are regular swiss tournaments that occur throughout the year for our more serious players, one can opt to discover chess by simply playing with a friend or a fellow program attendee under the guidance of our volunteers. There will also be plenty of opportunities for everyone to attend workshops held by experienced, bona-fide tournament chess players throughout the year.
We gladly welcome volunteers of all skill and experience levels!
