This event will consist of  5 rounds of swiss rapid games. New members please complete registration throught step 1 to 3. Active members please go to step 3.

The registration will be closed as soon as the cap is reached OR by 10:00 PM on August 29, whichever comes sooner. On site registration is not permitted. If you are interested in attending after the registration closed, please contact chesscjcc@gmail.com. We will try our very best to accommodate. However, the spot is not guaranteed.


Step 1: 

All participants must have a CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) ID. To find out the player's CFC ID number visit: https://www.chess.ca/en/ratings/ and enter your name.  If you have never played official tournament chess in Canada, you will need to create a free account on the CFC website which will allow you to have a CFC number.  In order to join visit:  https://www.chess.ca/en/players/membership-join/

All players must be Juniors:

A Junior is defined as anyone under 20 years of age on December 31st of the current calendar year (i.e., 20 years old or younger during that year).

  • Birth Year Criteria: Anyone born in 2006 or later qualifies as a Junior for CFC fees.

  • Turning 20: Even if a player is 19 for most of the year, if they turn 20 during the calendar year, they remain eligible for Junior fees through December 31 of that year. Once they enter the calendar year in which they turn 21, they are not considered a junior


Step 2: 

Please make sure you have renewed your 2026-2027 membership or sign up to become a member via link:  https://www.calgaryjuniorchess.com/CJCC/Member/Member


Step 3: 

Click the "Register" button in the upper right corner to complete registration. The member ID on the next page is our membership ID/club ID (the number you requested in step 2). If you don't remember, search by Membership-membership-filter

Sections: Players are placed in the following sections according to their ability. Players are allowed to play up a section should you choose so. If there are not enough players in a section, TD may merge adjacent sections.

  • Level 1 – Beginner (CFC <900)
  • Level 2 – Intermediate (CFC 900 – 1400)
  • Level 3 – Open (CFC > 1400)


Schedule:  Beginner and Intermediate Sections likely finish around 5:00 pm. Open Section likely finishes around 5:30.

  • 1:00 – 1:15   Registration/Check-In (Players who arrive after 1:15 will be paired for Round 2.)
  • 1:30              5-round tournament begins


Head Tournament Director: Bijan

Time Control:  20min and 5sec incremental

Prizes: Top 3 players and top girl in each section will receive medals

Fees:  Annual Membership $10. Tournament Fee $23.



Tie-Break Procedure: 

  •     Head to head (if all those tied played each other).
  •     Buchholz (Sum of all scores of opponents).
  •     Buchholz cut 1 (Sum of all scores of opponents except the lowest point scorer).
  •     Sonneborn-Berger (Sum of all scores of opponents you won against and half the scores        of opponents you drew).
  •     Most wins.
  •     Most games with black.

We recommend parents of players 8-year-old and under stay on site to supervise your children Also, please kindly notify the volunteers at the front desk if you decide to pick up your kids before all rounds are completed.
