Step 1 of 3
Get your CFC number
Skip this only if you already play in rated Canadian chess
events — you likely have one.
You now have CFC # e.g. 183043
Step 2 of 3
Join or renew CJCC membership
$10 for the 2025–2026 season. This is a separate account
from your CFC number.
You now haveCJCC Member ID e.g. 2177
Step 3 of 3
Register for the event
Do this for each tournament you enter — Steps 1 and 2 don't
repeat.
Where this usually goes wrong
The registration box
only checks that something was typed — it doesn't tell you if
the ID is the wrong kind. Entering a CFC number here instead of a CJCC Member
ID won't match any club membership, so double-check which number you're pasting
in before hitting Continue.
Questions that come up
Do I redo Steps 1
and 2 for the next tournament?
No. Your CFC number never changes, and your CJCC membership covers the whole 2025–2026 season. Future events are just Step 3.
What if the event fills up or the
deadline passes?
This example event caps at 50 players and closes
registration Nov 21 at 10:00 PM — whichever comes first. There's no
on-site, day-of sign-up, so registering early matters.
When does the tournament end?
There is no set time on when the tournament ends as the time control adds time to every move, each game can be over an hour long if both players use there time. The general rule is that beginners end earlier than other sections as they play faster, though if there are players that take their time and focus on the quality of their chess then that can change the expected time a tournament ends.
Do kids have to notate (write) moves?
No, players aren't required to write moves for the rapid tournament. It is a good habit to do so in preparation for more competitive tournaments and score sheets are provided and can be purchased.
Something's not working — who do I
ask?
